introductory comments
football quieted down a bit this week as a lot of teams were on bye, and that meant some introspection revealed that three previous games were input incorrectly. the results for western kentucky vs sam houston in week 0 and middle tennessee and eastern michigan's fcs games have been rectified. further evaluation will continue to ensure this is not repeated.

adjustments
an alligator ate an entire cow: texas @ florida
texas has disappointed us once more. their inability to beat florida has sent them careening down the table, and if they can't pull off a reasonable sec season they will keep sailing down to the bottom. more to the point, this their second loss has convinced the committee that they are not s tier material, and so texas is demoted to a tier.
florida 21, texas -16
more like sad valley: penn state @ ucla
an 0-4 four letter school has beaten the ap number 7 just like forty years ago. but this also of course means that penn state is not s tier material either. penn state is demoted to a tier, and their point loss for the week still stings so much. they almost gave up so many points that ucla shot all the way up into the top 25, but luckily the committee did not quite have to deal with that problem.
ucla 69, penn state -64
further notes
pat misses are real and they are coming for you: texas state @ arkansas state
texas state lost to arkansas state by a single point, and that point was a missed extra point. of course, if you rely on your kicker to win it means your offense failed in some regard, but let this game be another lesson to everyone that touchdowns are not a guarantee of seven points. always be padding your scores with insurance, especially in college. you never know when you will suffer a sudden collapse.
the race to the bottom develops another twist: army @ uab
army continues to defy the beautiful canvas of college football in as many ways as they can find by having an entirely inconsistent record this year. their defeat of uab netted them just enough points to pass liberty on their bye week, leaving them at the bottom of the table. army and liberty both play again next week, hopefully leading to even more intrigue as to who did the worst this year.
bowl eligibility: qualification
only one team was capable of stepping up this week to earn that crucial sixth win and a spot in the bowl games. everyone else will have to wait at least another week. congratulations to:
- the memphis tigers
bowl eligibility: elimination
none so far, but it looms close over the records of many.
scorigami recognition
the list continues to dwindle... congratulations to:
- nc state (56 vs campbell)
- south florida (54 vs charlotte)
- connecticut (51 vs florida international)
- pittsburgh (48 vs boston college)
- old dominion (47 vs coastal carolina)
- san diego state (45 vs colorado state)
- memphis (45 vs tulsa)
- duke (45 vs california)
- oklahoma (44 vs kent state)
- illinois (43 vs purdue)
- ucla (42 vs penn state)
- northwestern (42 vs louisiana monroe)
- ohio state (42 vs minnesota)
- arizona (41 vs oklahoma state)
- florida (29 vs texas)
- miami ohio (25 vs northern illinois)
- central michigan (22 vs akron)
- syracuse (18 vs smu)
- houston (11 vs texas tech)
the belt
miami retains the belt and gains five points. florida state fell apart at home until the fourth quarter, when they failed to make a big enough comeback to take the belt for what would have been the first time in almost exactly 25 years. miami decided to surround this game with byes, so the belt will remain dormant again next week before miami returns to play out the rest of the season.
finishing up
wednesday games start this week. keep your eyes peeled for a missouri state feature and a chance for liberty to fall further down the table. games continue until saturday, with the next article on sunday again. take care and enjoy october.
